License and Data Sources

This page describes the license applicable to the 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile
service, the rights granted to customers, and the licenses and attribution
requirements applicable to the underlying data sources.

1224Tools Bathymetry Tile License

Subject to an active subscription, trial, or other authorized access period,
and compliance with the applicable Terms of Service, 1224Tools grants the
customer a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable
license to access and use the 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile API in applications,
websites, software products, and services operated by the customer.

Commercial use is permitted where allowed by the applicable subscription,
trial, offer, or other authorized access terms.

Permitted Use

During an authorized access period, customers may:

  • display bathymetry tiles in commercial or non-commercial applications, websites, and software services;
  • overlay the tiles on third-party or customer-owned base maps where the applicable base map license permits such use;
  • display the tiles to end users of the customer’s application or service;
  • use the tiles together with markers, routes, tracks, weather information, vessel information, and other application data;
  • create screenshots, reports, PDFs, voyage logs, printed material, and other static outputs that include rendered bathymetry tiles;
  • distribute such screenshots, reports, PDFs, and other static outputs as part of the customer’s application or normal business activities, subject to applicable attribution requirements; and
  • perform reasonable temporary caching where necessary for normal operation and performance of the customer’s application or service.

Restrictions

Unless separately authorized in writing by 1224Tools, customers may not:

  • sell, sublicense, rent, lease, or otherwise redistribute raw bathymetry tiles as a standalone product;
  • resell access to the 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile API;
  • operate a competing or substitute bathymetry tile service using tiles obtained from the 1224Tools service;
  • mirror, clone, or systematically reproduce all or a substantial portion of the tile collection;
  • use automated bulk downloading, scraping, crawling, prefetching, or similar methods for the purpose of creating a permanent local copy, archive, mirror, or substantially complete independent tile collection, except where expressly permitted by a separate written agreement;
  • share, sell, rent, transfer, or disclose an API key to another customer, organization, or unrelated third party, except for client-side use within the customer’s own website, application, or service as permitted under the Terms of Service;
  • circumvent request limits, usage controls, authentication systems, Hard Limits, rate limits, or other technical restrictions of the Service;
  • remove or intentionally obscure attribution required by underlying data sources; or
  • use the Service in any manner prohibited by the Terms of Service.

End-User Distribution

Customers may make applications and services using the bathymetry tiles
available to their own end users.

This does not constitute prohibited redistribution provided that the tiles
are used as part of the customer’s application or service and are not offered
to end users as a standalone tile dataset, downloadable archive, tile API,
mirror, or substitute bathymetry service.

Static Outputs

Customers may create and distribute static outputs containing rendered
bathymetry information, including screenshots, images, printed documents,
PDFs, reports, and voyage records.

Static outputs lawfully created during an authorized access period may
continue to be used and distributed after that access period ends, subject
to applicable attribution requirements, third-party license conditions, and
the rights of the underlying data providers.

Static outputs must not be used as a method to reconstruct, redistribute,
mirror, or create a substitute for the underlying bathymetry tile collection.

API Keys

API keys are issued to customer accounts and are intended for use only with
applications, websites, and services operated by that customer.

Use of an API key in client-side code within the customer’s own website,
application, or service is not prohibited by itself. However, customers remain
responsible for taking reasonable measures to prevent unauthorized use and
for restricting, rotating, or revoking the key when appropriate.

Customers must not intentionally provide an API key to another customer,
organization, or unrelated third party for independent use of the Service.

1224Tools may disable, revoke, or require replacement of an API key where
unauthorized use, abuse, compromise, or another security issue is detected or
reasonably suspected.

Subscription and Termination

Access to the Bathymetry Tile API is provided during the applicable
subscription, trial, or other authorized access period.

When authorized access ends, the right to make new API requests and obtain
new tiles ends, except to the extent that applicable law or a third-party
open-data license independently grants rights that cannot be restricted by
the 1224Tools Terms of Service.

Static outputs lawfully created during the authorized access period may
continue to be used and distributed as described above.

Ownership

A subscription, trial, or other authorized access grants a right to use the
Service. It does not transfer ownership of the 1224Tools Service, API
infrastructure, software, processing systems, rendering configuration,
documentation, delivery systems, or other proprietary components owned by
1224Tools.

To the extent that 1224Tools owns intellectual property rights in the
processing, presentation, software, documentation, and Service components,
those rights remain with 1224Tools.

Underlying third-party datasets remain subject to their applicable ownership
status, public-domain status, license terms, attribution requirements, and
other rights described below.

Bathymetry Data — GEBCO

Bathymetric data used to generate the contour tiles is based on the

applicable derivative data, transformation information, or other material is
required under the applicable OpenStreetMap / ODbL obligations, 1224Tools
will provide the relevant material or information upon an appropriate request.

Attribution Requirements

Users of the 1224Tools Bathymetry Tiles are responsible for complying with
the attribution and licensing requirements applicable to the underlying data
sources described above.

  • GEBCO_2026 Grid — applicable GEBCO attribution and usage requirements apply.
  • OpenStreetMap-derived data — OpenStreetMap attribution and applicable ODbL requirements apply.

Where attribution is required in an application, website, document, report,
image, or other output, the attribution should be presented in a reasonable

Underlying Data Licenses

The 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile License governs access to and use of the
1224Tools commercial tile Service.

It does not replace, restrict, or modify rights granted directly by GEBCO,
OpenStreetMap, or other third-party data licensors.

Where a third-party license or public-domain status grants users independent
rights in underlying data, those rights continue to apply according to the
applicable license, terms, or legal status.

No Endorsement

Use of GEBCO or OpenStreetMap data does not imply endorsement of the
1224Tools Bathymetry Tile Service by GEBCO, the International Hydrographic
Organization (IHO), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC),
the OpenStreetMap Foundation, or OpenStreetMap contributors.

Safety, Service Availability, and Other Terms

The 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile Service is intended for map display,
visualization, software development, and related purposes. It is not an
official nautical chart or navigation safety system.

Rules concerning navigation and safety, Service availability, warranties,
limitations of liability, suspension, termination, billing, account
management, and other conditions of use are governed by the applicable
Terms of Service.

Additional Terms

Use of the 1224Tools Bathymetry Tile Service is also subject to the
applicable Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Pricing terms, and the limits
and conditions of the customer’s subscription, trial, offer, or other
authorized access.

If there is a conflict between this License and a mandatory requirement of
an applicable third-party data license, the applicable third-party license
takes precedence with respect to that third-party data.
